Columbia Sportfishing Charters
Catches & Regulations

Fisherman with ClamStriped Bass and Bluefish are our most popular catches. However, Cape Cod Bay is home to an abundance of marine life.

In addition to the familiar recreational fishing species, you may spot dolphins, porpoise, seal, sunfish, sea turtles, basking sharks and whales!

Below are some of the species you may find at the end of your line onboard the Columbia. State and Federal regulations apply to all catches.

Species Min. Size* # Limit**
Black Sea Bass 12" 20
Bluefish none 10
Dogfish none none
Fluke 17.5" 7
Monkfish 17" none
Skate none none
Striped Bass 28" 2
Tautog 16" 3

*Most fish are measured from the tip of the snout or jaw (mouth closed) to the farthest extremity of the tail.

Black sea bass are measured from the tip of the snout or jaw (mouth closed) to the farthest extremity of the tail, not including the tail filament.

Billfish are measured from the tip of the lower jaw to the tail fork.

** "Limit" is per person, per day.

Tuna and Shark are federally regulated. Regulations are variable throughout the season - even the 'season' is variable. Visit the NOAA Fisheries website for current regulations.

Fillet Permit: The Columbia holds the required State permit to fillet Striped Bass off-shore.

Catch-and-Release: The Costa family is actively involved in species conservation and habitat preservation. We encourage and practice catch-and-release techniques. Furthermore, it is illegal to discard of dead, legal size striped bass.

Please inform the crew when you have taken the amount of fish you plan to consume. The remainder of your days catch will be carefully released.
